A.V.P XBOX 360 REVIEW

just got alien vs predator for xbox360
it's a horrifying game with terrific graphics.
for instance, i was walking down the pitch black hallway with a small flash light and a pistol when suddenly an alien jumps straight at me and scares the living **** out of me!
it's one of those kind of games that are best played in the dark alone.
really creates a scary atmosphere.
the awesome thing though is to play as the aliens and predators, as well as the humans.
i strongly recommend playing the humans story mode first, since it introduces the melee (hitting\blocking) tactics needed during the aliens and predator story modes.

as the humans you start off as a rookie who never speaks a word (sound familiar?)
at the beginning you are in the drop ship and you are signalled to strap yourself in for a bumpy ride.
i guess the developers got a bit lazy and didn't bother animating the crash land sequence, instead you are hit by a flying suitcase are something and are knocked cold.
after hearing many disturbing sounds of the people around you dying, you wake up to a near-pitch black room and are forced to navigate through the maze of rooms to find a switch for the power.
later in the game you will encounter the frightening alien species.
who move at blinding speed, have a "mouth" on their tongue to feed.
also, their blood is made of a powerful acid that makes blood splatter lethal in some cases.
much later you will encounter the alien creatures known as "face-huggers"
these small creatures resemble a hand with a tail that crawls around the ground, and walls, and ceiling, and garb on to your face and plant an egg inside your stomach.
once this egg hatches, the newborn alien will bust through your rib-cage and run off to the shadows.
if the host (the person infected with the alien) is killed, the alien will also die.
now, onto the alien game play.
you control an alien who is inexperienced when it comes to hunting and such (again, a "rookie" of sorts)
so the human that has ensured your survival lines up some people for the slaughter, by releasing them into a pitch dark room with you, except you can see in the dark.
a special move can be done by pressing X at the appropriate time.
this can have numerous effects, such as:
impalement with your tale
"harvesting" (having a face hugger infect the victim)
feeding (shooting your tongue into the back of the victims head
and taking a bite out of his face
you can also walk on the walls and ceiling, which is pretty cool, so you can drop down behind the unsuspecting prey
ok, now onto the predator
this guy seems to be the favourite in the whole franchise!
not with his awesome mask, his awesome dreads, his awesome wrist-blades, his awesome plasma gun, just about EVERYTHING about this guy is awesome!
to make him even more awesome (if possible) he even has a cloaking device (makes him invisible) and can jump almost 25 feet in the air!!!
at the start of the game, you are a predator known as "newblood" and you are a "rookie" who is chosen to become elite.
ok, i mean now REALLY?
why the hell is everyone a rookie in these games?
so we have
A.V.P
halo: ODST
and the ENTIRE call of duty and medal of honor franchises
ALL of these feature you starting off as a rookie who never says a word and every one acts aggressively towards because you are inexperienced.
you then rise up against the odds and save the day!
this storyline has been so overused!
how about a disgraced military commander who has lost everything and is willing to put his life on the line once more, in VIETNAM!!!!
i would buy that.
anyway, back to the game.
in the start some aliens show up and you have to destroy them using the advice you are given.
you even get the opportunity to catch that damned alien by the throat and rip his tongue out!
this is called a "trophy kill"
later you find you have to pass a door but it's a retinal scanner (eye scanner) that only allows 1 particular person through, so you find the perso and pull the head from between his shoulders
and use the head to get through the door.
after you clear the mission a cutscean plays that shows a dead boddy with and unknown creature beside it.
the camera scrools up its body and you imeadiatly think
"its just an alien on its back legs!"
but when it reaches it's head you are baffled at sight of this creature and you shudder with the thought of a creature like this.
i hope you enjoyed this reveiw as it is the first of what i hope to be many.
and my final rating is
7.5 OUT OF 10
PROS:
fans will be amazed at how close this is to the real thing as you are sucked into the world of the person/thing/monster you are playing as.
play as your favorite race
trophy kills
special moves
amazing online experience
3 campaigns
easy gamerscore points (15 for each major objective complete with about 2 every mission)
CONS:
expensive (up to €55!)
controlls are tricky and a bit hard to get used to
predator is underpowered and has to stick to hidding in the trees mostly
online takes a while to load matches
repetitive maps
